Our Team

Post-doctoral Associate

Dr. Oleksiy Lebedynskiy

Dr. Oleksiy Lebedynskiy is a Senior Researcher of State Scientific
Institution “Institute for Single Crystals” of National Academy of
Sciences of Ukraine, holding a Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical
Sciences. In December 2023, he joined Prof. Halasyamani's group as a
postdoctoral fellow. Oleksiy specializes in the production and
research of functional materials and has an extensive background in
the production of inorganic compounds in the form of films and
crystals. His expertise extends to various methods and techniques for
studying the structure and physical properties of inorganic materials.

Post-doctoral Associate

Dr. Eric A. Gabilondo

Eric joined Prof. Halasyamani’s group in January of 2024 as a postdoctoral fellow after completing his Ph.D. in Chemistry with Prof. Maggard at North Carolina State University. His background is in the exploratory synthesis of metastable semiconducting oxides and using diverse materials characterization skills such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and various spectroscopic techniques to understand the underlying structure-property relationships. He now brings these skills to the Halasyamani group to discover new and functional nonlinear optical materials. Eric’s broad interest is to continue studying the structural chemistry of crystalline inorganic materials and their resulting properties to address emerging challenges in renewable energy and technology.

Visiting PhD Student

Yujie Zhang

Yujie joined Prof. Halasyamani’s group in August 2023 as a visiting scholar. His research involves the synthesis and crystal growth of new functional inorganic materials. During his Ph.D., he has been working on the exploration of new nonlinear optical materials and the growth of large single crystals using the TSSG and Bridgman methods.

Michael Jabez Vargas

My name is Michael Jabez Vargas, and I am a freshman at the University of Houston this year. I graduated from Wharton County Junior College with an associate of arts degree in general studies. I am a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and a Terry Scholar. I am eager to get started in Dr. Halasyamani's research!

I am a Freshman at the University of Houston majoring in physics. I graduated from Cinco Ranch High School in May 2023 and am a Tier One and National Merit Scholar. I work with Dr. Gabilondo in Prof. P. Shiv Halasyamani's lab on synthesizing novel deep UV NLOs, and I look forward to continuing our research over the summer.
