Our Team

Dr. Eric Gabilondo
Eric joined Prof. Halasyamani’s group in January of 2024 as a postdoctoral fellow after completing his Ph.D. in Chemistry with Prof. Maggard at North Carolina State University. His background is in the exploratory synthesis of metastable semiconducting oxides and using diverse materials characterization skills such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and various spectroscopic techniques to understand the underlying structure-property relationships. He now brings these skills to the Halasyamani group to discover new and functional nonlinear optical materials. Eric’s broad interest is to continue studying the structural chemistry of crystalline inorganic materials and their resulting properties to address emerging challenges in renewable energy and technology.

Dr. Chonglei Xu
Following graduation from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Dr. Chonglei became a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Halasyamani's group in September 2024. His academic background has primarily focused on the spectral characteristics of optical crystals doped with rare-earth ions. His research approach combines theoretical work, such as DFT calculations, with extensive experimental methods, including crystal growth and high-resolution optical spectroscopy. This multifaceted expertise has enabled him to develop a deep understanding of the structure-property relationships that govern the performance of functional optical materials.

Yunseung Kuk
Yunseung is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Chemistry at Sogang University under the supervision of Prof. Ok and joined Prof. Halasyamani’s group in February of 2025 as a Research Scholar. His background is in the synthesis of novel metal oxides and hybrid perovskites with the macroscopic noncentrosymmetric structures, with an emphasis on in-situ/ex-situ X-ray diffraction measurements to determine the crystal structures and their phase transitions. In particular, he has explored the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of noncentrosymmetric materials to understand the structure-property relationships and develop high-performance NLO materials. Building on this experience, Yunseung is now working on the synthesis and structural characterization of novel mid-IR NLO materials in the Halasyamani group. His research primarily involves growing large single crystals and investigating their NLO properties.
